Rugby to Harbury transmission line
East Midlands Electricity required the upgrading of the 132kV transmission lines between Rugby and Harbury substations, removing and replacing some sections and adding additional circuits, affecting some 24 kilometres of line in total. The proposed route passed through sensitive rural landscapes, affecting views from rural dwellings, popular footpaths, and the Grand Union Canal. Working in conjunction with Mono Planning Consultants and Turner and Partners, Stephenson Halliday carried out a landscape and visual assessment of the proposal, preparing photomontages illustrating the changes to the transmission line from selected viewpoints and co-ordinating landscape character assessments and designations over a study area which extended over three local authority areas.
