OVERBY QUARRY

Overby quarry is located in the North West of Cumbria and is operated by Thomas Armstrong Ltd. A planning application for an extension of the quarry, prepared by Stephenson Halliday Ltd, received a resolution to approve in Mid -December. The extension should provide an additional 4.5 million tonnes of reserves which is scheduled to last 18 years, and allows for relocation of the sand bagging and packing plant.

Preparation of the scheme has involved extensive use of 3-D computer modelling in LSS and Autocad to achieve a scheme that provides significant reserves, inert landfill and minimises operational and long term environmental impacts.
