Lowther Manorial Boundaries

Stephenson Halliday were commissioned by Lowther Estates to carry out a GIS based study to identify the relationship between the commercial mineral deposits of Cumbria and the Lowther Estate manorial boundaries. Digitised manorial boundaries from definitive historic documentation were superimposed on current digital bedrock and superficial deposit information supplied by British Geological Survey. This information was subsequently combined with ordnance survey 1:50 000 scale raster data creating an accurate county wide digital GIS resource enabling planning and long term management of Lowther Estates mineral resources.
