PEEL PLACE SAND QUARRY AND RESTORATION

The practice has been involved with this site since Tendley Quarries Limited took over the sand and gravel extraction. We coordinated proposals and Environmental Statement for the 4 phased extension area. Following planning approval, Stephenson Halliday have remained involved by preparing and overseeing the long term maintenance contract for implementation of the on-going restoration with Lowther Forestry.

Phase 1 of the restoration has involved 28000 cub metres of earthmoving and will restore 4ha of the quarry site back to agriculture with nearly 800m of hedge and kest planting. Later phases will involve restoration to a variety of different habitats including woodland, scrubland, herb rich grassland and habitat for sand martins as well as further agriculture.
