White Cross Bay Caravan Park
White Cross Bay Caravan Park is situated on the wooded eastern shore of Windermere in the Lake District National Park. Substantial areas of mixed woodland provide enclosure and screening, as well as divisions between different sections of the extensive site. The woodlands are subject to Tree Preservation Orders; however over recent years they have suffered from neglect and damage which threatens the long-term health of the trees and survival of the woodland cover.
Stephenson Halliday was commissioned to prepare a woodland management plan for the Caravan Park. The plan details the on-going management required to ensure that the woodland remains healthy and ecologically diverse and continues to provide screening for the caravan park in a potentially prominent location. The woodland cover in part of the site is to be reinstated following the construction of caravan hardstandings, with new planting established to give a woodland framework to the areas of touring caravan pitches.
Re-planting proposals were agreed in consultation with the Lake District National Park Authority and will be implemented over a fifteen year period.
