HENLLYS, BEAUMARIS
Stephenson Halliday, working with JMP
Architects of Lancaster, prepared design and construction drawings
for the redevelopment of Henllys Hall, a Victorian hotel near Beaumaris
for the Holiday Property Bond. The site, which overlooks the Menai
Straits and the mountains of the Snowdonia National Park, now provides
apartments and cottages for Bondholders, as well as a leisure club
and golf course.
The immediate surroundings of the refurbished Hall and newly built
cottages provide private and communal gardens, car parking areas
and spaces for outdoor games. The planting styles of the gardens
reflect the context of the buildings; formal, traditional planting
with pyramid yews, roses and lavender hedges to the entrance forecourt
of the Victorian Hall and looser, informal perennials with grasses
to the frontages of the newly built cottages.
A network of walks has been developed through the woodlands which
surround the Hall, with the management plan for these important
semi-natural woods prepared by Stephenson Halliday and ongoing
management carried out by the Bond’s own staff.
