Broken Bank Landfill and Municipal Recycling Facility
AD Waste, responsible for waste disposal and recycling for Flintshire, commissioned Stephenson Halliday, in association with Smiths Gore and Egniol Ltd, to develop landform design and restoration proposals for Broken Bank tip which adjoins Deeside Industrial Park. The practice also carried out a landscape and visual impact assessment of the proposals which formed part of an Environmental Statement prepared by Smiths Gore.
A phased method of working was developed to provide rapid screening of the landfill activity from sensitive viewpoints and to retain existing grassland and scrub throughout the tipping process.
Restoration proposals include the creation of grassland, scrub and aquatic habitats to reflect and enhance the nature conservation interest and designations of the adjoining Dee Estuary.
The work of the practice included photomontages showing the proposals during several phases of the landfill process and the preparation of exhibition materials used for public consultation. Client: AD Waste |
