Thomas Armstrong have been extracting sand from a ridge of fluvio glacial sand near Westnewton for over 50 years. A processing bagging plant at New Cowper had been supplied from a number of satellite quarries. As the supply from the last of these was close to exhaustion, Stephenson Halliday were engaged to prepare a scheme for the relocation of all processing and bagging activities to the Overby quarry together with  significant extensions to that quarry. The application was for a 4.5 million cubic metre extension to the quarry with a new access and new buildings for all processing plant. The application was accompanied by an Environmental Statement which we also prepared. The scheme was granted permission and the new access and buildings for the processing activities constructed and the first of the extensions is being worked.
