Stephenson Halliday has prepared an EIA for proposals to extend and progressively restore Kirkby Slate Quarry on the edge of the Lake District National Park for Burlington Slate.
Our planning and landscape teams worked closely with our client to develop the working scheme and phasing plans for the proposal. We have provided on-going planning advice to our client and have coordinated inputs to the Environmental Statement from a number of specialists. We have undertaken a detailed landscape and visual impact assessment and have prepared all supporting planning documentation for the application.
Throughout the process we have led discussions with Cumbria County Council and a number of key consultees, including Natural England. We have assisted with the public consultation exercise for the scheme, which has included meetings with local parish councils and attending public open days at the quarry.
The full planning applications and EIA were submitted to Cumbria County Council in March 2016.
