Quarry Extension

Details & Location

Afonwen, Flintshire

Stephenson Halliday were commissioned by Breedon Aggregates Ltd to provide EIA, planning and landscape services for the proposed extension to Maes Mynan sand and gravel quarry, located at Afonwen in Flintshire.

We assembled and managed a bespoke team of specialist consultants to undertake environmental assessment work for the scheme.

Our landscape architects worked closely with our client and consultant team providing detailed existing and proposed phasing plans for the scheme. They also worked closely with our ecologist to develop achievable progressive restoration proposals for the site, resulting in a scheme which assimilates well with the surrounding landscape – particularly important given the site’s close proximity to the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This work was followed by a detailed Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment and supporting graphics.

Our EIA coordinators took the project from pre-application with the local planning authority, through the Scoping process, to preparation of the EIA and submission of the planning application.

Following the successful approval of the application in 2016, we have assisted our client in discharging conditions for the scheme.
